Studio IV for mixed use special populations focused on combining traditional elements with contemporary design. Our site was located in the heart of downtown Cortona, Italy, and includes an open courtyard area as well as three levels of enclosed space. I chose to convert this site into a coffee roastery, something that Cortona lacks, but would fit beautifully into the town.
The final project includes hand drafted floorplans, sections, sketches, and furniture designs. In addition to my drawings, I included textures and materials that are intentional and add depth and character to the space without being distracting.
This project was such a joy to work through and eventually showcase in UGA's exit "mostra". The local Cortonese who joined the "mostra" gave excellent feedback for the idea. as a coffee lover, conjoining the beauty of Italian architecture with the passion for coffee feels like a dream come true.
